Inspired by ideas found in Chip and Dan Heath’s Book, Made to Stick, this session will examine how a ragtag group of library nerds transformed themselves into a lean, mean, strategic communications machine. The UWinnipeg Library has one of the lowest librarian-to-student ratios in the country, and staff have minimal time for projects outside of “traditional” library operations. By using the concept of Commander’s Intent, the team has been able to craft a sustainable strategic communications approach that encourages creativity and independent decision-making while maintaining a clear focus on library messaging objectives. Over a year into the project, the library has seen significant gains from increased exposure and engagement with the community.
