For the past five years the Winnipeg Public Library has been digitizing, describing, and providing access to three historical Winnipeg and Manitoba postcard collections. Rob McInnes, collector; Christy Cherwinski, cataloguer; and Mike Ellis, librarian discuss the challenges and joys of working with these collections. Additionally, we will discuss the monetary and human resource needs of undertaking local history digitization projects like these, where corners could be cut (figuratively, Rob, calm down) to make them more accessible, and what is currently out of reach of even larger public libraries such as Winnipeg Public.
